Skyler- All About Perspective

2ndSaturdayGirlies

hola everybody! my part 2 of the overwhelmed series is still a work in progress, praise the Lord it's cuz i actually have a lot of crazy good things going on to write about but hopefully i can get that done soon because if i wait too long it's gonna be wayyyy too much.

in the meantime, i've been listening to podcasts, watching sermons/presentations, reading, and having some pretty good conversations that are also filling me up with so much to talk about. One thing i keep coming across (its also something i personally think about a lot) is deliberately changing your outlook on specific things and just life overall. i've talked about my determination to not get sick, mainly by having a mentality of i'm not actually sick if i don't admit it and this is kind of the same idea but maybe not as ridiculous. it has more to do with having hope and faith that the outcome is planned by God to be the best thing for you, not just ignoring the bad or pretending everything is all good. You can accept whatever is going on and trust that in the end, if you use that time to grow your relationship with God and lean on him, you will be closer to your heavenly father and you will have been shaped more for the purpose set for you by God.

One particular thing i saw was a post about good friday. We call it good because we know the outcome 3 days later is the best thing that could happen, our salvation being won and our eternal homes in heaven being secured. However, if we were to be stuck in the moment or perhaps didn't know what is coming, there is absolutely NO WAY we would call this good. we would probably give the day some gruesome/tragic/devastating name instead. But, out of the actual worst thing ever// God's own son being killed by people he created and loved with his entire being// the most amazing thing ever came to be. basically we can't be too quick to label the hard times in our life, because we don't know what exactly will come out of it. instead of getting weighed down where we are, we can take comfort in knowing that there is more to the story, and looking back we will know more than we did while going through that.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths

We won't understand what is going on all the time, especially when we are overwhelmed and we don't know what to think, but just like proverbs says, there is someone guiding you the whole time and he has your best interest in mind. so yeah, trust that the guy who created you//the world//the universe//everything because knows what he's doing, and try to have an outlook that demonstrates your faith in the happy endings to come (even if those happy endings aren't what you were expecting//or what you would have preferred)

I've been listening to Sadie Robertson's podcast "whoah, that's good" while working in my neighbors' garden and cleaning my room and one of the episodes that stood out to be was related to this topic as well. thanks to that i have another book on my "to read" list, and even though i haven't started it yet i kinda want to recommend it anyways so check out Point Of View by Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Finally, a song i've started listening to a lot since i learned I Am They are going to be at the LCMS National Youth Gathering this summer (woohoo!!!) is Scars, and i just love how the lyrics relate to this too:

Waking up to a new sunrise Looking back from the other side I can see now with open eyes

Darkest water and deepest pain I wouldn't trade it for anything 'Cause my brokenness brought me to You And these wounds are a story You'll use

So I'm thankful for the scars 'Cause without them I wouldn't know Your heart And I know they'll always tell of who You are So forever I am thankful for the scars

well, happy easter y'all!!!!!
